An attitude towards space
Architecture is the embodiment of the human concept of space. That is why we approach each project as a holistic process, encompassing everything from the structure to the way it is inhabited.
Our work begins with a deep understanding of the place, blending rigour with emotion, technique with intuition. We transcend the boundaries between disciplines because we understand architecture as an essentially humanistic practice, thought in terms of relationships, synergies, unions and meeting points.
The places we inhabit end up being part of our lives and of ourselves; places that, in turn, determine the way we inhabit them. We are convinced that there can be no architecture without empathy, without closeness, without involvement, without emotion.
People are at the heart of our projects. By inhabiting the spaces we create, they bring them to life and give them meaning, shaping environments that convey a subtle, intuitive depth.
Shared architecture
Blanes Urigoitia is an architecture studio in Madrid founded by María Urigoitia and Eduardo Blanes. United by a shared vision, they develop contemporary projects at multiple scales, focusing their research on the power of the essential to move people, and continuously redefining the ideal of achieving an elevated simplicity.
Our practice
Exploration | Conceptualization of ideas | Search for spatial narratives | Customization of solutions | Design of architectures on all scales | Material and sensory selection | Integration with other disciplines | Regulatory compliance | Technical development | Continuous monitoring

Eduardo Blanes
An architect from the University of Granada, he furthered his education with a Master’s Degree in Advanced Architectural Projects and a Doctorate in Architectural Projects from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. He has taught project courses at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) and has developed his professional practice in offices in Rome, London, and New York, cultivating an approach to design that combines technical rigor and attention to detail with a sensitivity to the emotional dimension of space.
María Urigoitia
Licensed architect from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, she completed her studies with an MFA in Design for Emerging Technologies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, after being awarded a scholarship from the “la Caixa” Foundation. She later taught at the same institution. Her professional experience in Shenzhen, Chicago, and Madrid has broadened her perspective and allows her to approach each project with a cross-disciplinary outlook, attentive to context, innovation, and the lived experience of space.
