The renovation of the basement of the building that houses the Spanish Golf Federation forms part of a broader vision that completes the interventions carried out on the first floor—home to the residence—and on the ground floor between 2022 and 2025. Within this framework, the project redefines the building’s internal flows by placing the underground passageway—currently undervalued—at its core, transforming it into the true gateway to the National Golf Center.
This new spatial strategy allows visitors to cross the building from the parking area and emerge directly onto the 18th hole, activating a basement level that had long remained underused. From this renewed circulation spine, an interior street is carved out at the heart of the building. On one side, it supports the redesigned shop, now conceived as the key element from which activity across the golf course and the building itself is structured. On the other, it is lined with a series of commercial spaces that give purpose, rhythm, and programmatic density to this newly constructed internal street.
This passageway, which opens onto the 18th hole and becomes a sweeping vantage point over the National Golf Center, links two programmatic worlds. To the east lie the Federation’s own facilities, along with supporting commercial units—such as parcel services, garage, and the buggies area. To the west unfolds the reorganized program of locker rooms, the restaurant’s administrative suites, various training spaces, and the required storage areas.
The interior reconfiguration of the building’s circulation is complemented by an exterior intervention: the closure of the former tunnel located on the west side. The infill and sealing of this tunnel make it possible to extend the restaurant’s terrace platform, increasing the surface available for dining. At the same time, the partial closure of the tunnel allows for a secondary access for loading and unloading, serving both the restaurant and the adjacent storage facilities.
Together, these operations in the basement complete the transformation of the building, enabling a renewed understanding of its architecture: an open system establishing new relationships—radiating in every direction—with the golf course, that true operative landscape of aspiration and dreams for every player who approaches this facility in the heart of Madrid.
